Kate Thompson has been an archivist for over 40 years. She was County Archivist of her native Leicestershire between 1979 and 1990 and of Hertfordshire from 1990 to 1999. She has written Julian Grenfell, soldier and poet: letters and diaries, 1910-1915 for the Hertfordshire Record Society (2004) and (with Paul Carter) Sources for Local Historians (Chichester, 2005).
Dr Christopher Thornton is the County Editor of the Victoria County History of Essex, an Associate Fellow of the Institute of Historical Research, University of London, and the Chairman of the Friends of Historic Essex.
Nigel Tringham is a Senior Lecturer at Keele University.
He is the County Editor for Victoria County History of Staffordshire, Director of the Centre for Local History and MRes Local History programme and Director of the Latin and Palaeography Summer School.
Alex Turner is Research Associate in Archaeology in the School of History, Classics and Archaeology at Newcastle University.
With over 30 years' experience in archaeological survey, a major strand in his research is the development of an holistic method using techniques such as GIS, laser scanning and geophysical prospection to enable better understanding of historic buildings.
